Ryan Leaf Continues to Coug His Life

Ryan Leaf, the star quarterback who led Washington State to the 1998 Rose Bowl, is in jail in Bellingham. He was arrested while crossing into the U.S. from Canada; Leaf is suspected of breaking into a college student's apartment to steal prescription painkillers, as well as a host of drugs charges.

Now that Ken Bone has been named the head coach at Wazzu, we implore the students to name their section The Bone Zone. They will definitely surpass the Cameron Crazies and Romarville. Oh, and we demand full credit at all times.

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity to win a college football game, would you capture it, or just let it slip?

We're going to drop some locals-only wisdom on you, which Seattle natives rarely if ever do sober...so listen up.

As a Husky fan, Seattlest could simply not sit quietly as this story made the local news rounds. Pullman, Wash., home of Washington State University, has approved a new city ordinance to make fist-fighting a civil infraction. The ordinance passed Tuesday and will go into effect next week. After which, if you happen to get caught in fisticuffs in Pullman, expect to pay a $250 fine.

The only team more dominant in the 2008 NCAA Tournament than the Washington State Cougars has been the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Tar Heels averaged 110.5 points in their two games, while the Cougars’ 66 points per game is just as impressive, considering their margin of victory (25.5 in their wins over Winthrop and Notre Dame).

The Washington State Cougars shut down one of the most potent offenses in the Tourney and the Big East Player of the Year, Luke Harangody, to advance to the Sweet 16. This is the first time in more than 65 years that Wazzu has won two games in the NCAA Tournament--last time, they made it to the national championship game. Coach Tony Bennett motivated his players with a little pre-game reminder of what happened last year, the result: the Cougs dominated the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame from start to finish on Saturday, winning 61-41.

Yesterday was a tale of two halves for the Washington State Cougars. Up against a tough No. 13 seed in Winthrop, the No. 4 seed Cougars were struggling at the half-way point tied 29-29. Then something clicked…Wazzu tightened up on defense, started taking quality shots and, 20 minutes later, the Cougs were moving on to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 71-40 victory.

The Cougs are still missing that killer instinct. Up 20 points and closing in on half time, Wazzu let the Oregon Ducks whittle away at the lead. With the 75-70 victory, Washington State will seek revenge against the Stanford Cardinal, who beat Arizona last night to advance to the semi-finals of the Pac-10 tournament.

With the Huskies losing last night, their chance at the NIT are not looking good. Luckily there are two teams on the eastside of the mountains keeping hope alive for the State of Washington in the NCAA Tourney.
