CHANNELING NIRVANA, ONLY BETTER: Yeah, we said it, but as Kurt Cobain once noted about the Vaselines, "They are my most favorite songwriters in the whole world." So much so, that he named his daughter Frances Bean after lead singer Frances McKee. We agree and think it's totally awesome that they're in town playing on a Tuesday for only $20. A hugely famous band that doesn't come to town very often, fairly affordable, plenty of tickets left, and on a Tuesday. We are practically pinching ourselves, and can't wait to hear old favorites such as "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" and "You Think You're a Man," among others. The last time Seattle got a chance to see them was at Sub Pop Records' 20th Anniversary, and we are loving that this time around it will be in the city, with hopefully a smaller crowd.

MvB can't decide if he's heading out early or late, but at some point he'll be at Uber Tavern drinking an assortment of "very rare" beers and snacking on Swedish meatballs.

#1 on our list of events for the weekend is the Elysian Pumpkin Beer Festival this Saturday up at the Capitol Hill location. There will be 13 different pumpkin beers on tap, including the GABF silver-medal-winning The Great Pumpkin Ale. Festivities begin at noon with the tapping of the Great Pumpkin at 4pm; a huge pumpkin in which a batch of Night Owl carried out its secondary fermentation. Yum.

We were sitting at Uber Tavern this weekend drinking a few beers, and the bartender brings in these awesome looking sandwiches that he and his buddies start chowing down on. He notices us staring (And possibly drooling just a little bit) and he throws us their menu and says, "It's only 3 blocks up the street and the sandwiches are great. Just order now. They close in 20 minutes."

If you love stouts, like we do, you are going to want to hop in your car/get on the bus/ride your bike up to Uber Tavern in Greenlake for a taste of the 2003 Silver City Imperial Stout.
