GET SMARTIE: So you think you're a smartypants, eh? And you want to see that smartypants professor in the white house? Then you're in luck! Go use your brain for Obama tonight, and participate in a trivia night fundraiser at the Hi-Life in Ballard. The entry fee is a bit high for trivia night at a bar, but excessively low for a political fundraiser. Just think of how those Eastsiders paid $1k/plate when Cindy McCain......

Seattlest Trivia draws Seattle's sharpest teams, but we're still sometimes dazzled by the breadth of your knowledge. On July 1, teams averaged over 6 points on 7 of 8 rounds (brush up on Fictional Plants), including a very strong performance (6.94 points!) on Britney Spears. In the end, Reichert Did It squeaked out a half-point victory over Steve Pool Party in My Pants (70 to 69.5), thanks in part to a misremembered Die Hard title.......

STEP UP YOUR BRUNCH GAME: Brunch for Seattlest usually means stumbling to the closest eggs-and-bacon joint, slamming some coffee, and thanking God we didn't have to put on real clothes for the occasion. But we will make an exception and actually dress up (ish) for a fancy weekend brunch, now offered at the Saint, if only for the opportunity to taste Tecate-marinated Carne con Huevos (yum) and sip on a house mimosa. The Saint's from......

After winning $3,022,700 from Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings could've retired to a Seattle suburb to roll around in piles of dollar bills. Instead, he became America's answer to Ben Schott, wroting about trivia: a book its history, a regular column in Mental_Floss, a popular weekly trivia quiz, and most recently a hu-frickin'-mungous collection of questions, the Trivia Almanac. In short, he's got the career we've secretly wished we could have since we were nine years......

Seattlest left Cooper's Alehouse at 10:40 last night with a brand new bucket, part of our team's prize for coming in 5th place. And we wondered why we'd never managed to check out their trivia night when we lived within walking distance. It was a good quiz. Cooper's quiz is scheduled for 8:45 Tuesday nights, though last night's kicked off at 9:00. It's 40 questions, uncategorized. Teams trade answer sheets for scoring. After about......

Three short weeks ago, it was Seattlest trivia night. Tonight, we're back, hosting the pub quiz at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. Assemble a team of up to five brainiacs and let us ask you questions. You can win valuable cash, and also prizes (well, swag). Rules: No more than five people per team, $5 per team to play. The three top scoring teams at the end of 80 questions win cash. Someone else wins......

The quick answer: there is still Seattlest Trivia at the Old Pequliar. But now it only comes around every five weeks or so. After Seattlests Seth and David hung up their quiz caps, a number of people signed up to join the quiz-hosting rotation at the Old Pequliar. (So for now, no slots are open.) Regular players NAMBLA debuted as hosts this past Tuesday with an excellent quiz, and they'll be doing it again.......

We remember the winner: Equal Time for Chocolate Buddha. They won $110. Second place: Another one of NAMBLA's wildly inappropriate names. They won $40. Third place's name had something to do with the Mariners' season, and they won $10. Fourth place was The Fookin' As. They chose Marvel comics as a round topic for next week -- something we've always been tempted to do, what with growing up on John Byrne's Fantastic Four and......

It's Tuesday once again, which means it's Seattlest Trivia Night at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. Last week's fourth-place team, Destroy All Cows, won the right to request a round topic, and they picked Filmmaking Lingo and Equipment. We'll be sure to point out their table so rotten tomatoes can be tossed their way, rather than ours, but we do recommend brushing up on your film slang if you have a chance today. As......

The days are getting longer, and a smidge warmer, so come celebrate indoors at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. Seattlest Trivia Night starts at 8:00. It's $5 per team to play, and you can have up to 5 people on your team. However get there early as tables go hella fast. Thanks to last week’s fourth place team’s fourth place finish there will be a round on contemporary playwrights. Winners receive cash prizes (last week......

Since tonight's American Idol is a rerun (or will be one day) why not come on over to the Old Pequilar in Ballard and match wits with some of Seattle's best trivia teams. For just five dollars, you and an unlimited amount of friends (teams limited to five people) can compete for the top prize of $1,000 cash (that last zero shouldn't be there...oh, and it may be slightly less or more). The quiz starts......

A good rule of thumb for playing trivia: When in doubt, go with your first answer. It saves arguing and cuts right through potentially endless cycles of self-doubt. Unfortunately, Tuesday night at the Hopvine, that rule of thumb failed us. Twice. And left our team, I Am Anna Nicole's Babydaddy, in second place. "What philosopher is associated with deconstructionism?" Our gut answered quickly: Baudrillard. Wait a second, said our brain, I think it's Derrida. Our......

Seattlest Trivia Night knows that tomorrow you’ll either be cursing those receiving flowers or cursing Hallmark for making you spend money on forced jesters of love. So before all of the cursing begins come on down to The Old Pequliar in Ballard for an evening of enjoyment. Seattlest David is back to ask the questions, make up answers, get flustered, and ultimately award every team a point. He will be assisted by Seattlest Courtney and......

25 teams! Free ashtrays for the taking! Controversy about whether or not Bangor is a "city" or just part of Bremerton! And a geeky white boy dance-off to close the evening! Yes, last night's Seattlest trivia at the Old Pequilar was, again, a madhouse -- the fun and exciting kind of madhouse. Our friend Brannon fulfilled a lifelong dream of writing a trivia quiz and making his friend read all the questions -- and a......

"The bums will always lose!" They can blow up our car, but they cannot stop trivia. "They" = "the fates." Last week's fourth-place team, Faust, requested a round on The Big Lebowski. That's the prize for fourth place: round topic of your choice. Faust chose the Dude. (They also said they were going to email us with some info about Lebowski Fest, but they didn't, so Metblogs got that scoop. That's Faust for you --......

Much like a conquering hero returning to the battlefield, Hüsker Don't cleaned up at Seattlest Trivia Night after several weeks off. We wonder about Hüsker Don't, it seems as if they can win any trivia contest they enter, so why wouldn’t they want to pocket the huge cash prize every week? Our theory: they hate showing off their supreme knowledge of everything, but every once in a while they run into problems with overseas bookies......

Have you been down in your basement lately? Well we have, and bad news, it's flooded. The good news, however, is that it will still be flooded tomorrow. So instead of spending all night mopping and spreading out towels, come on down to The Old Pequliar in Ballard for Seattlest Trivia Night. There are huge cash prizes, three dollar Newcastles, and cheap tacos. $5 per team. Teams capped at five. The trivia starts at 8pm.......

Things we learned at trivia last night: Some people thought the Molucca Islands might be popularly known as the Rattan Islands, the Rubber Islands, the Molasses Islands, or -- our favorite given the question -- Java. No one reads Ellery Queen these days. (Nor, to be fair, do we.) At least one team thought perhaps Steve Irwin won the women's 400m sprint at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Alternate theory: your mom. Like Seattlest......

A record-setting 20 teams competed in Seattlest trivia at the Old Pequilar last night. The winning team scored 64.5 points (out of 80) and toook home $150. We'll post complete results this afternoon. Want to give it a whirl? Here are the 60 regular questions. Look for the answers later, too. We showed tonight's quiz to our resident almost-genius (and sometime quiz host) Seth, who declared that at least one round was "really painful -- I'd have gotten a zero." So every team that gets more than 0 points that round can know this, even if they don't win money, or swag: you knew more than a near genius. (We'll let you know which round later.) Tonight's quiz at the Old Pequliar will be hosted by......

We can't make it out to our friend's wedding party in Madison two weeks from Saturday, and we are not happy about it. So what are we going to do? Are we going to go home and sulk? Are we going to go home and whine about it? Hecks no. We are going to get our tush down to the Old Pequliar in Ballard for Seattlest Trivia Night. We are going to win huge cash......

Things we learned at trivia last night: In the right circumstances, the Bellevue skyline (not a contradiction in terms) resembles Anchorage, Portland, Everett, Cleveland, or Cincinnati. Jessica Biel was a very unpopular choice for Esquire magazine's 2005 sexiest woman alive. (Most popular guesses: Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba.) No one realized PowerPoint was an original Microsoft Office program. And there were not a lot of Judy Collins aficionados in the crowd. Thirteen teams turned out......

Thirteen teams turned out for Seattlest trivia last night at the Old Pequliar. Want to see how you'd do? Here are all the questions. We'll post answers later today, along with a list of team standings and anything else interesting we find to say about the event. Yes, it's Tuesday. And that doesn't just mean Dawn's in trouble -- it means Seattlest -- specifically, Seattlest James -- hosts trivia tonight at Ballard's Old Pequliar pub. The questions are difficult, the tacos are 3 for $2, and the Newcastle is just $3 per pint. Last week saw a record-breaking 19 teams show up, which meant the first place team won $130. We'd tell you who won, but David made off with the scoresheets......

We never claimed to be good at math. Last night our magical tallying gnomes screwed up some addition. Happily, double-checking the stats this morning revealed that while the final scores were, um, creative, the actual 1-2-3 standings are the same. To be fair to the calculation wizards, it was a madhouse at the Old Pequliar last night. 16 teams played trivia -- a record since Seattlest's been hosting. Random stuff we found out: No one......

For the first time in the seventeen-year history of Seattlest trivia night, there was a first. Never before has a last place walked away from the quiz without Old Pequilar-donated swag. However, due to a tie for last place, one final question decided which one of the two losers would win a shirt, a hat, some flip flops, a frisbee and kite. In the end a next-to-last winner was declared, and both teams returned to......
