The Yankees Are Coming! The Yankees Are Coming!

Safeco's meaty special of the week: The New York Yankees' first 2009 Seattle appearance, in a four-game series starting Thursday.

Advance Notice on Doing the Puyallup

With our warm-again, not-again weather this summer it is hard to imagine that it is time to start thinking about The Fair. The Puyallup is offering online deals including the all-you-can-ride Dizzy Pass, but most parents would have to take off work to take advantage of that. There is an opening weekend special which includes admission and seven rides for $20 (you have to click on "Continue" and then "Ticket Packages" to find it), but as every parent knows, seven rides is just a good start. A standard sheet of 20 tickets is $15, with each ride taking a few tickets.

We're Out Scalping Light Rail Tickets Today...

Over the weekend and again this morning, a bug has been affecting Link light rail's ticketing system, telling aggrieved would-be riders no soup for you "transaction canceled." Bummer.

Your Swine Flu Primer

Public officials in the U.S. and around the world are issuing warnings about an ongoing outbreak of swine flu that has pandemic potential. Centered in Mexico, this outbreak has already spread to the United States and Canada. Forty cases have been reported in U.S. in New York, California, Texas, Kansas, and Ohio.

One Reel just announced The All-American Rejects, The Ting Tings (who we saw just a few days ago), Brett Dennen, and U.S.E will be on the bill for Bumbershoot 2009. Each of these shows is monumental in its own right, but the fact that they're both going on sale on the same day--this Saturday--must indicate something apocalyptic is afoot, straight out of 2012, or at least Know1ng. First: Kenny G on Tuesday, November 17 at the Paramount Theatre, with tickets running $35-65. Now as that's sinking in, consider this: New Kids on the Block at White River Amphitheatre on Tuesday, July 7. Tickets are $19.50-79.50, with specially-priced $10 lawn tickets available on Saturday only. Somebody call Roland Emmerich and greenlight this disaster.

Tickets to Death Cab at Marymoor Park on July 18th just went on sale last weekend, and already a second show has been added the following night due to overwhelming demand. Tickets ($35, not including fees) for the Sunday, July 19th show are on sale now via Ticketmaster and Live Nation. No word as to whether the openers for Sunday are the same as Saturday--Ra Ra Riot and the New Pornographers--as of right now, there's only "special guests" affiliated with the Sunday show.

Just announced: The Shins are set to play two shows at the Showbox on Monday, May 4 at 9:00 p.m. (all ages) and Tuesday, May 5 at 9:00 p.m. (21+) . Tickets are $34.99 (yowza), not including those delightful Ticketmaster fees. Tix go on sale this Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m. We'd advise you to save a few bucks by buying your tickets directly from the Showbox box office. Also on sale via Ticketmaster/Live Nation this Friday/Saturday: Death Cab/New Pornographers/Ra Ra Riot at Marymoor Park July 18, Ben Folds at the Paramount May 14, and Phish at the Gorge for two nights (*shudder*) August 7 and 8.

We said Pacific Northwest Ballet's Broadway Festival was an enormous amount of fun, and it sounds like plenty of you figured that out for yourselves. Artistic director Peter Boal just sent out this "Next round's on me!" email: "With 5,250 tickets purchased to date, we have broken the old record for single tickets sold for a mixed repertory program. It is also the highest grossing mixed repertory program in our company's history, surpassing the old record set by Valentine in 2006." Two shows left: Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Just a final reminder that tomorrow is SIFF's early bird deadline for passes and ticket packages to this year's festival (May 21-June 14). This is your last chance to get some major discounts, like a full series pass for $475 (normally $850), film tickets in groups of six for $45 (normally $57) or twenty for for $145 ($180), and a pass to the secret festival within the festival for only $33. These early bird discounts are only available to SIFF Supporters with an active membership, so it doesn't hurt to renew or sign up to take advantage of these deals.

While supplies last, a three-day pass to next year's Bumbershoot is just $60. The only catch is that you gotta be a BumberFan, but that process is relatively simple. Meanwhile, SIFF has passes and ticket packages for next year's film festival on sale now through January 15th. And if you're looking for a fest a little further afield, specially-priced tickets to next year's Bonnaroo just went on pre-sale today.

With today's release of her new album Circus, the narrative dictates that Britney is making a comeback. But with last weekend's MTV informercial and recent trainwreck live performances, we say she's still a hot tranny mess. Either way, it's just announced that Ms. Spears is heading to town next year: "Britney Spears will bring her highly anticipated The Circus Starring Britney Spears 2009 Tour to the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA on Thursday, April 9. The 27-city North American trek, her first arena tour in five years, follows hot on the heels of Spears’ long-awaited sixth studio album, Circus. Emmy Award-winning choreographer and director, Wade Robson, is helming the incredible tour production, which also features special guests The Pussycat Dolls." Squeeeeeee! Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m. Prices start at $35.

We're reminded (via Monica Guzman's Twitter feed) that the Obama inauguration is gonna be well-attended. Both Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell's offices have stopped taking ticket requests; Murray got over 6,000 potential takers for about 350 potential tickets. If you're not on someone's list already, you're probably out of luck. Is it too early for bars to start advertising inauguration parties? We think not.

Our compatriots at DCist have been scouting for information on inauguration tickets. Turns out you can't get them from TicketMaster. For one thing, they're free. And for another, it's a government hand-out.

Tickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies will be provided free of charge and distributed through Members of the 111th Congress. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies does not provide tickets to the public. Members of the public interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremonies should contact their Member of Congress or U.S. Senators to request tickets.
So who do you have on speed dial?

After talking about it for what seems like forever, it's finally time to buy your SIFF tickets. The SIFF 2008 schedule of films, programs, and special events is now available at both the SIFF website and in the annual Seattle Times pullout guide.

Right on the heels of the announcement that the Mars Volta was added to the Sasquatch lineup, and right before tickets go on sale this Saturday, the three-day music festival has seen fit to delineate who will be playing on which day:

Lisa Confehr and Kaitie Warren are the co-directors of Balagan Theatre's Romeo & Juliet, and they deserve co-praise for the hectic, breathless pace of this 16-actor-strong production. (Now through March 22nd, Thurs-Sat 8pm, Sun 2pm. Tickets: $15 advance, $20 at the door.)
