Aw, thanks, Redhook. We really appreciate the sentiment. Now, if you could help the Seahawks or the Huskies start winning, we'd be even more grateful. Don't forget to add your lovely sentiments and photos to the Seattlest Flickr Pool.

This is pretty heartwarming stuff. The NBA asks teams who play against New Orleans to do a little community service while they're there. Teams do, often haphazardly, sending a couple of players along to some pre-selected site.

You'd assume that the few people who showed up at Key Arena tonight were hoping from a show from Kobe Bryant.

What a glorious morning! The Sonics have won three of five, Edgar Martinez wasn't in the Mitchell Report, we've got a kickin' holiday party to attend tonight.

When you allow a team to reach the century mark in the 3rd quarter, you aren't going to win a lot of games. Unless you're the 1979-80 San Antonio Spurs. The Sonics did enough on offense to win tonight: Eight guys scored in double figures, led by Delonte West's 17. But on defense...oy. Stromile Swift (the one Swift in the NBA who doesn't bring shame on his surname) put 24 on the Sonics, with putbacks,...

The Sonics open their season tonight in Denver. Game's at 7:30, you can watch it on FSN.

While you're enjoying an unseasonably sunny summer afternoon, we will be at Safeco Field, showing our undying support for the 2007 Seattle Mariners, authors of one of the greatest collapses in baseball history.

Save Our Sonics and Citizens For More Important Things' Chris Van Dyk are working together to keep NBA basketball in the city…until 2010.

In June of 1996, Shawn Kemp had just outplayed Michael Jordan, and even the most pessimistic Sonics fan agreed that the Supes had been a healthy Nate McMillan away from taking the crown.

SonicsCentral pointed us to this story from the Daily Oklahoman, where Clay Bennett is as explicit as ever about his desire to move the Sonics:

"For now, without a building solution, it's our intent to play in Seattle and apply for relocation immediately after the (Oct. 31) deadline."
It's good that Bennett's finally declared his intentions, NBA-backers can now prepare for the big fight. The Sonics' lease, signed after we taxpayers remodeled the Coliseum for them, runs through 2010. It would seem that, with Bennett having given up on Seattle, the only hope of keeping the Sonics would be to force him to stay in town, exposing him to several years of financial losses unless he unloads the team to a local buyer willing to build a privately-funded stadium here. That, or convincing NBA owners to oppose his application to move. Surely the NBA can't be relishing the possibility of having a marquee player like Greg Oden or Kevin Durant stuck in the nation's 45th-largest TV market (Seattle is 14th).

True Hoop's been running a fascinating serial written by Gregory Dole, who was Leandro Barbosa's interpreter when he worked out with NBA teams before the 2003 draft. Part IV talks about Barbosa's work out with the Sonics, wherein he wowed the top of the Sonics' org chart, including then-poobah Howard Schultz. Barbosa had a great workout, hitting his shots, blowing past defenders, and unleashing a nasty crossover that caused Kirk Hinrich to fall on his ass. Then he hurt his hip running a sprint, and here's where Dole's account gets depressing.

Many agility tests later with the team doctor, and we are sitting in the reception area waiting to go back to the hotel. Leandrinho has a pack of ice on his hip. Nate McMillan walks by and idly jokes, "I hope you don't get to work out for any other club! You played great today. I hope you fall to us."

Via True Hoop, the News Tribune's Frank Hughes reports today that the Sonics' organization is "enveloped by a cloud of paranoia, mistrust, distrust and, now, anger."

Really the only thing worth remembering from last night's game was an amazing swing by Ichiro. In the 4th inning, Harden threw him a nasty splitter that fooled him. But he changed his swing mid-stroke, adjusted his bat downward, and reached the ball about a foot off the ground. And he didn't just make contact, which would've been an amazing feat in itself--he lined the ball into centerfield.

The Sonics will play in their possible future home town tonight when they face the Oklahoma City/New Orleans Hornets in the brand new Ford Center.

According to ESPN, Seattle is the sports suffering epicenter of the world.

--Northwest stocks weren't immune from yesterday's stock downturn. The market is up so far, though.

--The Sonics will have an NBA all-star after all; Ray Allen's an injury replacement.

--"Who's at the door, honey?" "The Sonics!" "Uh, tell them I gave at the office."

Sports: The Sonics are 6-9, on a two game losing streak, and everybody's fighting. The Orlando Magic are 11-4, have won their last four, feature Dwight Howard, and come from some place very warm! What's not to love? Tip-off is right when the next snowstorm is supposed to hit. Worth risking your life for? Yes!

The Sonics added four more owners to the new ownership group yesterday. Since they've professed a desire to stay in the Seattle area, we wondered if they'd managed to find at least one local person to join them. Nope.

The Oklahoma City Seattle Rootin' Tootin' Rim Rockin' Hombres Presented by Walmart Sonics open the season in less than a month--on November 1st, vs. our new favorite team Portland.

-Every 24-yr-old who's ever been frustrated at their inability to rent a car should rejoice - Seattle-based Flexcar is going for the campus market.

The Seattle P-I confirmed what SonicsCentral reported yesterday: The Sonics' new owners were looking at possible arena sites in Bellevue yesterday--specifically the old Safeway distribution center east of 405, which has been mentioned before in connection with a new arena.

As the NBA's 10th worst team, the Sonics had about a 1/25 chance of getting one of the top three picks, and about a 9/10 chance of getting the 10th pick. They did not pick up an ace "on the river" however (if you have been unemployed in the past year you will know what this means), and so the tenth pick is theirs.

The Sonics absolutely insane idea to have the city pay for a remodeled Key Arena is surprisingly finding opposition. So much so that a rally is currently taking place in which concerned citizens are throwing a send off party for the team.

-Radio man of the people Rush Limbaugh was arrested on prescription drug charges today. They're expected to be dropped as a part of his deal.

The city of Renton, which radiates out from the south end of Lake Washington east toward the Cascade foothills, is "eager to shed its blue-collar reputation," according to the Seattle Times.

Seattle's the most well-educated city in the country, says the AP. 51% of Seattle residents graduated college, more than any other U.S. urbanoland. And yet we built two giant sports stadia right next to each other! Go figure.

Before we get to the Sonics, let's start off with some humor, courtesy of the Seattle Times' consistenly suicide-inducing "Sideline Chatter."

The Sonics continued their frontcourt youth movement, signing 24-year-old forward Noel Felix from the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the CBA. They waived recently acquired Bryon Russell.
