While we are no doubt excited for the biggest draws of the CHBP, we’re most excited to see some of our local favorites. Over the coming day and a half, we’ll post some words we’ve exchanged with the bands to ensure you get to know them all just a little bit better before you are faced with making choices about the three stages when you’re on the ground. First up, we present Seattlest’s favorite purveyors of rich Americana melodies, The Maldives and The Moondoggies.

Since Capitol Hill denizens stepped up to the plate and donated the most during the 2008 summer membership drive, KEXP is spending Friday hanging out in the neighborhood. John Richards, Cheryl Waters, and Kevin Cole will all broadcast their shows from Caffe Vita--with live performances aplenty, including The Moondoggies, Say Hi, Mates of State, and Black Kids--while other djs will be taking over the sound systems at Linda's, Grey Gallery, the Cha Cha, Havana, Moe Bar, and the Wild Rose. Plus, there's extra discounts and perks for KEXP members at Capitol Hill establishments. Full details here.
KEXP is counting down the top 90.3 (.3?) albums of 2008 and is asking all of us to help them out by paying them a visit and voting for your favorites. Countdown closes this Friday, December 19th. Our picks include David Byrne & Brian Eno, Drive-By Truckers, Fleet Foxes, Helms Alee, Jake One, Love Is All, Lupe Fiasco, New Faces, Santogold, The Knux, The Moondoggies, The Saturday Knights, The Black Keys, to name a few. How about you? Feel free to share in the comments!
All that talk of lumberjack chic returning to the Seattle scene got us all unintentionally heated under our (flannel) collar about our favorite local band rocking the oh-so-hot look: The Moondoggies. The next big thing out of Seattle sounds like the best of what was created at Big Pink, full of rollicking dusty blues, molasses-thick harmonies, and some straight up shit-kicking rockers.
It's safe to say that the only person in town who loves Dr. Dog more than us is erstwhile Stranger music editor Jonathan Zwickel. We won't go so far as to say that they "sound like the best band ever," but we do agree that the Philly five-piece have the influences (Beach Boys, Beatles, Steely Dan, The Band, and so on), the sense of melody, and the spot-on harmonies to always put on a rollicking live show. Their new album Fate covers the same territory as their previous four in a good way: this is straight-up musical goodness, and if you can't appreciate their easily accessible homage to classic sounds (we're looking at you, Pitchfork), then you've got no pop soul. Delta Spirit and Hacienda open, but in a perfect world, Dr. Dog would be playing with similarly minded local band The Moondoggies.
, Waters has been pushing the boundaries of the cinema for about 40 years, and has moved from the indie fringes to the mainstream with popular stage musicals of his classic films.
