Oh Seattle, you make us feel so old. It was maybe a year ago and some, while we were wallowing in the mud at Sasquatch, clutching our $8 cans of Budweiser, when we finally said to ourselves, "You know what? Outdoor festivals suck." And then we recoiled in horror. Hating festivals is the very definition of getting old, isn't it? Really. There's an accepted narrative explanation of this phenomenon at pseudo-hipster bastions like The......

Seattlest arrived on scene soon after the Capitol Hill Block Party had opened. We wandered, checked out the stage locations and thought about getting a beer, then spotted a booth touting free bottled water. It looked like the booth had something to do with praying to the Earth Spirits or some other new wave white hippy crap, but we decided to take our chances. We asked for a water and oddly enough their were no......

Finally, someone else sees things our way. Like peanut butter and jelly, there has been one natural combination longing to be put together: having a beer and thinking about your favorite insurance company. Thank God Online providers Esurance have stepped up to the plate. Meshing together insurance needs with scenester whoredom, that's right, this year it's the Esurance Capitol Hill Block Party. The Esurance Capitol Hill Block Party is a huge, two-day explosion of......

Friday night Seattlest headed to Neumos for the sold out Silversun Pickups show and Sunday we headed to the Paramount for the sold out Modest Mouse show (the latter courtesy of the ticket provided by Seattle Metblogs - thanks!). Ordinarily we'd split the reviews into separate posts but in this case the same lesson applies to each band so we've opted to combine them. Friday our show-timing was off a bit so we showed up......

Atlas Clothing at the corner of Pike and Broadway has been having a lot of success with their all-ages music shows recently so they're stepping up to two nights a week. Tonight are the Young Sportsman and tomorrow is Central Services and Shorthand for Epic. If you've been to Atlas for the clothes but not the music and are wondering how it's set up, it looks something like this. Here's the Young Sportsman from last......

Tuesday 7th >>> Foreigner at The Paramount. Be warned: whether you're cold as ice or hot-blooded, this is the kind of rock that leads to double-vision. *video: Urgent 8:00pm; $40-$150. The $150 includes a pre-show wine tasting and meet & greet. >>> Bonnie Prince Billy at The Tractor. Will Oldham has been keeping us at arm's length with the "Bonnie Prince Billy" moniker for years. After kicking our collective asses for four consecutive days, the heat is finally backing down. So pull yourself together. Go outside again -- especially to Capitol Hill this weekend. Tuesday 25th >>> The Long Winters at Sonic Boom in Ballard. Putting The Days To Bed, the third LP from Seattle's The Long Winters, combines the lyrical intimacy and melodic complexity of the Ultimatum EP with the guitar pop rave-ups of the bands previous full lengths.......

Hopefully you didn't waste your money this weekend having lunch in hell, because tomorrow the long-awaited Carnavas from the Silversun Pickups will be released – just in time to pick it up and get acquainted before the Silversun Pickups do their thing at the Capitol Hill Block party this Saturday. Seattlest got our grubby paws on an advance copy of Carnavas. Our initial impression: We likey. A lot. Carnavas is the rare album that......

Silversun Pickups is an up-and-coming California four-piece with boy-girl rock vocals. Their 2005 EP, featuring the single "Kissing Families" won them a lot of new fans, including John Richards and the rest of the KEXP crew. Now their full-length is set to be released next Tuesday to much anticipation in the indie rock blogosphere, and rightfully so---it's solid. Seattlest spoke to raspy singer/guitarist Brian Aubert about the differences between the EP and the LP,......

Seattlest saw three accomplished bands perform at the Paradox last Friday. Even though we were a little out of it from the usual double-shifts at the multiple day jobs, we can still testify that all the usual stuff you've read about the Silversun Pickups, Crystal Skulls and Helio Sequence remains true as of this writing - except all that stuff you've heard about Brian Aubert sounding like Billy Corgan is not actually true; his......

Fresh from his quarter-hour of fame as a food blogger, Ronald is preparing a giant Spanish torta for a neighborhood party in Belltown. He plans to stalk chef Kerry Sear's cooking class at Cascadia on Saturday morning. On Sunday, he'll make is way into SoDo territory where wine writer/wine merchant Rich Kinssies promises to roast a pig and pour samples of Spanish reds at The Wine Outlet . We hope it goes well with the......

We tried to keep an open mind for last Thursday’s show at Neumo’s (featuring The Cops, Amusement Parks on Fire, Silversun Pickups, and Nine Black Alps). Sometimes, however, you know things well in advance, like that perhaps you’re too well-versed in rock to hear what all the kids are hearing in these new shit-flavors of the month bands because you’ve already found those hundred or so bands, that to you, started it all. And because......
