Huskies Should Weather Sun Devils

Earlier in the week Seattlest/Sports NW Seth had some actual analysis regarding tonight’s big Husky game against Arizona State.

Jeff Renner, stop talking.

We promise you we didn't search back in the depths of Seattlest's suddenly sunny Flickr Pool. Oh, no, this photo was taken yesterday! Yesterday, as in the tail end of October! We have to thank Seattle weather for trying to make up for the lackluster summer and for giving us the sun now. There are few things more beautiful in the world than a crisp sunny Seattle fall day, and we are extra appreciative of them now. Do share your photos of Seattle's electric blue fall skies with us, won't you?

"This winter, expect...absolutely anything," courtesy of the Seattle P-I. Thanks P-I...tell us something we don't already know! Oh, we understand, "El Nino is so last year..." and that this year is apparently "ENSO neutral," but is unpredictable weather in the Pacific Northwest really news? In general, Seattle winters and weather have always been unpredictable. Take this year for example, when it was snowing the last days of March and pushing 70 degrees yesterday, the first day of October. Basically what we're saying is they could post that headline everyday or it could be easily revised it to cover all Seattle weather, "As for weather in Seattle, expect...absolutely anything!"

A couple weeks ago we promised a friend a whole month more of summer, because we can control the weather like that...and obviously, we totally failed. Drop your photos of Seattle obscured by clouds and rain for the next nine months in the Seattlest Flickr Pool, which is never gloomy or grey.

While we'll be cursing the same weather in a few months, there's something sexy and energizing about a summer storm in Seattle. Add your erotic Seattle weather photography and anything else to our wonderful Seattlest Flickr Pool.

There are 12 weeks until Election Day, and 12 issues in our state's gubernatorial race (13 if you count Eastern Washington's concerns). Each week we'll be taking an award-winning look at where the candidates stand.

After what seemed to be the longest winter in Washington history, a weekend full of warm sunshine was just what Seattle needed. Thankfully, this weekend finally delivered--and then some! With tempratures topping the 90's both Saturday and Sunday, Seattle tied high temperature records for those days. What did you do to enjoy the sunshine--was it too hot or just right for pride? Did any of the local drag queens' makeup run? If it was a wee bit too warm for you, as it was for this (still) sweating Seattlest, we want to know what you did to stay cool.

dogs.

  • With a week full of record low temperatures, Seattlest wondered if we'd ever see the sun again, and so did guest-blogger Ryan Dobosh.
  • Bostonist laid the smack down on two dumbass students who videotaped their neighbors getting it on, then shared the video online.
  • Gothamist found that taking photographs at Coney Island can mean, at least for one photographer, that the police and other people can force you to hand over your film, or "things are going to get much worse for you."
  • Shanghaiist learned how to pronounce "Beijing," host city of the upcoming Olympics.
  • DCist experienced a difficult and sad Friday the 13th with a massive power outage and the sudden death of Washington media legend Tim Russert.
  • Chicagoist saw Republicans target (future First Lady?) Michelle Obama.
  • Phillyist was up in arms against breed-specific legislation, which, if passed could see loving family pets confiscated or even euthanized, just because of their breed.
  • Londonist reminisced over their long obsession with funky footwear, then celebrated the release of Adidas London trainers.
  • Ryan Dobosh lived in Seattle from 1989--2002, before moving to Los Angeles. He is in town this week and has some thoughts about his old home.

Yesterday's stormy weather left over 35,000 homes in Western Washington without power. Nearly 20,000 of the homes affected were in Seattle and South King County. The National Weather Service warned of gusts of over 55 mph yesterday and, while it's no scientific measure, the windows of our house were rattling and the power flickered more than once last night. Thankfully, it never went out. The Washington State Ferry Service reported "steady winds at nearly 40 mph" off Alki Beach, which must have made for some unpleasantly rough weather on the Sound.

As our friend pointed out, between the weather, the Mariners, and The Love Guru, 2008 could go down as the worst summer in history.

The weather, it just gets worse.

This is what the sun looks like, and that blue stuff behind it, that is called the sky.

If you thought snow in late March was strange, just wait till you try snow in late April! The National Weather Service says Western Washington should expect a cold weekend, with high temperatures venturing into the low 40s. They've forecasted 1 to 2 feet of snow in the Cascades over the weekend and lowland snow showers at elevations as low as 1,000 feet. So last Saturday it was pushing 80 degrees, and this Saturday we should expect snow showers? Great news for skiers who don't want to let go of an epic season. Not so great for the rest of us who are clamoring for a little springtime sunshine.
