The top six winners of yet another fashion competition--Seattle Magazine's Seamless in Seattle Contest--have been selected, and they're pretty familiar to us, here at Seattlest. You've seen, or should we say read about, some of them before in our previous coverage of the Art Institute and New York Fashion Academy spring fashion shows. Finalists presented their collections to a team scrutinizing judges organized by Seattle Magazine, and left one category open for viewers to decide online, won by Eunice Poon for her "I Dream in Cake." more ›

Happy Seattlest reader Tim sent us a note yesterday about the contrast on the covers of Seattle's glossies, Seattle Magazine and Seattle Metropolitan. The two get dinged for not being distinguishable, but this month at least they have their editorial sights set on vastly different horizons. Yet maybe we can see an underlying similarity still: Seattle Mag seems to be feeling anxious and looking for relaxation, while Seattle Met is dealing with anxiety by turning to a huge fucking cookie. Just out of curiosity, where's the Seattle glossy that gets anxious and fixates on sex? Or is that huge fucking cookie just a stand-in? more ›

Other than the perfunctory post-holiday shopping sales, Seattle's fashion community pretty much goes in hibernation in January and February—with the exception of the second annual Project Red Dress fashion competition. The Seattle chapter of Fashion Group International is brightening up our fierce-less February with the largest student fashion design contest to hit Seattle, and not a minute too soon for those interested in fashion beyond North Face fleece. more ›

The sad--or happy--fact is that a lot of Capitol Hill drinkers are still the dark about Redwood's existence. It rose triumphant from the metaphorical ashes of a Duds 'n' Suds laundromat, and offers home cookin' worth blogging home about, plus the sweet potato fries which are de rigeur these days. more ›

Seattle Magazine, that workhorse of the Tiger Oak menagerie, is now online. Sadly, their Best of 2008 issue reads like a goddamn obituary column. Best coach: Mike Holmgren (all but g-gone after a dismal season). Best new restaurant: Quinn's (opened in 2007). Best dance club: Neighbours (almost gone if you believe Slog). Best music venue: Showbox (the old one that's closing any day now). Best alternative weekly: The Stranger (the only alternative weekly, if we're not mistaken). Best local political blog: David Postman in the Seattle Times (long gone, never better than HorsesAss). Best local food blog: Bon Vivant (what? only two posts since July!). No need to mention that power-poster WestSeattleBlog wins Best Neighborhood Blog; not being a nabelog, Seattlest isn't the least bit jealous. more ›

Aw geez. Another noble Seattle name goes into the toilet. Redhook Brewery, the brand launched by Paul Shipman and Gordon Bowker more than 25 years ago, will become part of a corporate entity called Craft Brewers Alliance after it takes over Portland-based Widmer Brothers for a reported $50 million. more ›

We're doubling up this evening, and dropping in at chamber guitar group Tuning the Air, in their new CHAC-tastic location, for some Robert Fripp-ist unchained melodies. Here's the pdf of their Seattle Magazine profile. If you like acoustic guitars, this is your home on Monday nights. 8-9pm // CHAC // $10 suggested donation Then if the power's still on, we're off to Fremont, and the Jenny Owen Youngs show at the High Dive. We had... more ›

We successfully navigated the B-word over the weekend without seeing John Moe do his McSweeney's dance, which is not very neighborly of us. It's something we would love to see and hopefully he performs again sometime soon, although that seems unlikely because he's got this whole book thing going on as well. more ›

What a treat this week's episode was, hmm? Chalk full of little easter eggs for us Pacific Northwesters. Plus, the triumphant return of Joe ! And mocha lattes! Special appearances by Mamas Grey and Yang! Lake Washington aerial view! And, Seattle Grace Hospital continues to single-handedly be responsible for the whole of Seattle Magazine's circulation. more ›

Both weeklies published Valentine's Day issues this week, with The Stranger deviating most from what Seattlest considers a normal issue. The Weekly straight up never deviates from what Seattlest considers their normal issue. more ›
