First things first: Yesterday's pre-quiz trivia question, worth $50 in bar credit. What city fills in this blank, and why? Seattle, Hong Kong, ________, Bangkok, San Francisco A couple of people guessed that they were the cities Bruce Lee had lived in, but they gave different answers for the blank. Great thought, but wrong. The correct answer: Sydney. Why? They're the floors in the parking garage at Pacific Place. Congrats to two members of team......

Seattlest Trivia draws Seattle's sharpest teams, but we're still sometimes dazzled by the breadth of your knowledge. On July 1, teams averaged over 6 points on 7 of 8 rounds (brush up on Fictional Plants), including a very strong performance (6.94 points!) on Britney Spears. In the end, Reichert Did It squeaked out a half-point victory over Steve Pool Party in My Pants (70 to 69.5), thanks in part to a misremembered Die Hard title.......

Photo courtesy of Seattlest Flickr pool contributor Sprizee. Why? For one thing, you could win a free pitcher of beer--cool, refreshing beer--if you come in fourth place at half time. (Such a useful brain!) Or if you can answer this trivia question: Which Batman villain is a Seattle native? Email your response to james at seattlest.com. If you're right, you might win beer--I'll randomly select among everyone who submits the correct answer. You do have to......

First things first: Much to our own surprise, the [edit: second] most populous city in Eastern Washington (which is everything east of the Cascades, people; it's in Wikipedia, so it must be true) is Spokane Valley. We know. We thought it was Yakima, too. Turns out that when we triple-checked it, all the sources we had cited the 2000 census—but Spokane Valley incorporated in 2003, after the census. We stumbled into a trick question, but......

Wanna win a free pitcher of beer tonight at the Old Pequliar? You could make sure your team is in fourth place at halftime. Or you could answer this question: What's the second-most-populous city in Eastern Washington, after Spokane? Email your response to james at seattlest.com. If more than one team answers correctly, I'll pick the winner at random. Of course, you also have to show up at the Old Pequliar tonight to play pub......

Seattlest has heard good things about the All-Star Pop Culture quiz at Jillian's ever since it started up. We still haven't had a chance to check it out—Tuesday's our regular trivia night, even when we're not hosting. But since the spring season kicks off tonight, we did the next best thing: interviewed Trevor Trifiro, the brains behind the quiz. Assume I've never played pub trivia before. What should I expect when I come to All-Star......

First things first: You can win a free pitcher of beer. All you have to do: be the first person to email us (james at seattlest dot com) with the correct answer to this question: Who was defeated by Jean Godden in 2003 and by Ken Jennings in 2004? Oh, you also have to show up tonight at the Old Pequliar. And while you're there, you might as well play the quiz. Details: Trivia starts......

Seattlest James is hosting, because it's the first Tuesday of the month. (It's also Super Tuesday, so he'll be glancing at the bar's television sets to see if "yes we can" translates into "yes we did.") Want a free pitcher of beer? Be the first......

Seattlest left Cooper's Alehouse at 10:40 last night with a brand new bucket, part of our team's prize for coming in 5th place. And we wondered why we'd never managed to check out their trivia night when we lived within walking distance. It was a good quiz. Cooper's quiz is scheduled for 8:45 Tuesday nights, though last night's kicked off at 9:00. It's 40 questions, uncategorized. Teams trade answer sheets for scoring. After about......

Blah blah blah trivia tonight blah blah blah Old Pequilar blah blah blah James hosting. More details? We're hosting the pub quiz tonight at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. It is our sincere hope and belief that this week's quiz is easier than the last time we hosted, but we could always be rudely surprised, we hope. Regardless of actual difficulty level, someone's winning prizes, and it might just be you and your motley......

Three short weeks ago, it was Seattlest trivia night. Tonight, we're back, hosting the pub quiz at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. Assemble a team of up to five brainiacs and let us ask you questions. You can win valuable cash, and also prizes (well, swag). Rules: No more than five people per team, $5 per team to play. The three top scoring teams at the end of 80 questions win cash. "If I were still mayor, and I knew I was coming to an event like this," Charley Royer told us before last night's political fundraiser pub quiz, "I'd make sure there wasn't a question about Seattle that I didn't know the answer to." Nice in theory. Mayor Nickels' team won the night (we swear we didn't rig it!), but he was only able to get 6 out of 10 on our Seattle round. Can you......

On the off chance that you don't know the drill, let us introduce you: Seattlest James hosts the pub quiz tonight at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. The quiz starts at 8:00. Signup starts at 7:45. Jockeying for tables starts even earlier -- we've heard rumors that you should be there by 7:00 if you want to guarantee a seat. Given that we always have a seat behind the microphone, we're not experts on that.......

Blame NAMBLA. Not that NAMBLA. Or even the North American Marlon Brando Look Alikes. Nope, blame Seattlest trivia regulars NAMBLA, who always come up with the most twisted (and often the funniest) team name of the night. Fast Times at NAMBLA Elementary's fourth-place finish last week meant they got to pick the theme of a round this week. Their chosen theme: Famous Pedophiles. If you're reading this at work, you're probably too late to......

Unless a sudden, savage blizzard strikes in the next couple of hours -- unlikely -- Seattlest trivia will proceed as planned tonight at Ballard's Old Pequliar pub. Expect the usual: a geography round, a movie round, and two picture rounds. And Vas Deferens De Gama, who came in fourth two weeks ago, requested a round on beer, so expect that as well. James hosts. Seth and David continue to watch local high school basketball. Signup......

Electrical Engineering. That was the round topic requested by last week's fourth-place team, Eaten by Wolves..and I'm Gay. So in addition to regular topics Geography and Movies, you can brace yourself (or study up for the next 10 hours or so on) for a round on Electrical Engineering. (Also last week: Yellow Piece won first place, Good for Nutting took second, and Piranha Farm took third.) Then bring your knowledge of all things unimportant......

Though they promised to be there, Husker Don't was not among the teams playing the pub quiz at the Old Pequliar last night. Once again, their absence was greeted with applause as a Winchell's dozen of other teams realized their chances to win the big bucks had just improved. Congratulations to regular players (but inconsistently named) The Secular Left's War on Boxing Day, who took first place by four points. Last night we also......

Before we get started, a question: the Old Pequliar wants to know if people are interested in a quiz on the day after Christmas. If you'd be likely to show up, or if you usually show up but wouldn't, let us know in the commments so we can report back. Seventeen teams played Seattlest's pub quiz at the Old Pequliar last night. The top three teams took home cash, and the last place team......

Best thing we learned at last night's quiz: Gabriel Garcia Marquez looks like "Agatha Christie on a bad day." The Old Pequliar's own version of Ken Jennings, Hüsker Don't, returned to the playing field last night and promptly (well, in two hours) won by 7 points over Who'll Stop the Crane? Seattlest is currently in negotiations to produce Win Hüsker Don't's Money -- stay tuned. Oh, and where are the video games? Round 8, people,......

Things we learned at trivia last night: Some people thought the Molucca Islands might be popularly known as the Rattan Islands, the Rubber Islands, the Molasses Islands, or -- our favorite given the question -- Java. No one reads Ellery Queen these days. (Nor, to be fair, do we.) At least one team thought perhaps Steve Irwin won the women's 400m sprint at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Alternate theory: your mom. Like Seattlest......

We showed tonight's quiz to our resident almost-genius (and sometime quiz host) Seth, who declared that at least one round was "really painful -- I'd have gotten a zero." So every team that gets more than 0 points that round can know this, even if they don't win money, or swag: you knew more than a near genius. (We'll let you know which round later.) Things we learned at trivia last night: In the right circumstances, the Bellevue skyline (not a contradiction in terms) resembles Anchorage, Portland, Everett, Cleveland, or Cincinnati. Jessica Biel was a very unpopular choice for Esquire magazine's 2005 sexiest woman alive. (Most popular guesses: Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba.) No one realized PowerPoint was an original Microsoft Office program. And there were not a lot of Judy Collins aficionados in the crowd. Thirteen teams turned out......

Yes, it's Tuesday. And that doesn't just mean Dawn's in trouble -- it means Seattlest -- specifically, Seattlest James -- hosts trivia tonight at Ballard's Old Pequliar pub. The questions are difficult, the tacos are 3 for $2, and the Newcastle is just $3 per pint. Last week saw a record-breaking 19 teams show up, which meant the first place team won $130.
