After a flurry of demonstrated community concern, the sale of the Capitol Hill OddFellows building to developer Ted Schroth was finalized in January of 2008, and his company seemed to want to put the whole uncomfortable matter behind them when touting the glorious financial potential of the space:

"The OddFellows Building presented us with an incredible opportunity to restore one of the neighborhood's most cherished icons," said Ted Schroth, the project's developer. "It has been an exciting and rewarding project to be a part of, and we are very excited about the tenants who have already chosen to make the building their home. We are looking forward to finding the right mix of remaining retail and office tenants to share in this remarkable piece of history."
But while development projects are fizzling all over town, the OddFellows business venture seems to be humming along on track. Perky new businesses have been moving into the renovated spaces at a constant rate. OddFellows Café settled in last year and Molly Moon’s ice cream parlor opened this summer, along with a chi-chi children’s clothier this month. Century Ballroom Café introduced their Tin Table restaurant sister-business this year and welcomed The Academy of Burlesque to share their class studio space as of September 1. more ›

It's been a long time since Kim had a tourist to show around, so she's looking forward to giving her father a stellar tour of Seattle and its environs. On the agenda: Chateau Ste. Michelle, Bainbridge Island, the Fremont troll, and plenty of great food--finally an excuse to go to the Kingfish! Before pops arrives, she'll kick the weekend off right, with Sera Cahoone and Zoe Muth tonight at the Tractor. more ›

  • A young man was shot in the head at the Garfield Community Center last night. Central District News has all the updates, including that two witnesses held for questioning escaped through a window.
  • Do you drive a blue Kia Sentra? Did you abandon it, double-parked on a West Seattle hill recently? If so, your neighborhood would like you to move it...like, yesterday.
  • In this faltering economy, Cap to the Hill has a great holiday present option as demonstrated by their photo-booth Tuesday entry.

Let's see what's in the mailbag. Volunteer Park Cafe tells us: "We are now using Molly Moon Ice Cream. Haven’t tasted her Salted Caramel Ice Cream yet?" Why no, we haven't. Nor, to our shame, have we been by to sample some of your matzoh ball chicken soup. What is wrong with us? Plus, Ericka's collaboration with Linda Derschang, the Odd Fellows Hall cafe + bar, opens (in theory) on December 19. That's 10th and East Pine on Capitol Hill. more ›

Linda Derschang, of Linda's Tavern and King's Hardware fame, is joining forces with Ericka Burke of the Volunteer Park Cafe to bring you the newest "quintessential neighborhood hangout" on Capitol Hill...and according to this post on Craigslist, the duo is now hiring for a variety of positions for the cafe! The so-called Oddfellows Cafe and Bar, to be located at 10th and Pine and opening in early December, "will be serving Stumptown coffee, homemade baked goods, breakfast, lunch & dinner," as well as "beer, wine & cocktails." We'll reserve judgment about the food itself until we've had a chance to check it out, but we'd put money on this cafe as the next hip place to be employed. Thanks to Seattlest tipster Sarah! (And h/t to CHS, which we just saw posted about this earlier today.) more ›
