Welcome to Seattle, Edgerrin James! The likely Hall-of-Famer is a Seahawk, signed to provide depth at a position that has been unsettled since Shaun Alexander's 2006 collapse. more ›
The clock is ticking, and at 10 a.m. expect office productivity to come to a halt for a few minutes as single game tickets go on sale for the 2009 Seattle Seahawks football season. No field trips to Qwest Field Box Office are necessary, because tickets will only be available at www.seahawks.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000. This season brings a slew of Midwest teams westward (Lions and Vikings and Bears, Oh my!), so Midwest transplants, be prepared! There is a maximum purchase of six tickets per game. The Seahawks' first pre-season home game is August 22, against the Denver Broncos. more ›
This morning around 2 a.m. a deadly fire broke out in a University Place home, killing 61-year-old Rachel Kalebu and J.J. Jones, formally John Eddie Jones, a New York Jets quarterback during the 1970s. Fire crews reported finding the bodies in different levels of the home--Jones had rented the basement--after the intense flames were extinguished. Suspiciously, the fire occurred a day after a restraining order was filed against Kalebu's 23-year-old nephew. Police have since taken the nephew into custody, and he is now being questioned in connection with the fatal fire. more ›
With the NFL Draft taking place tomorrow Seattlest Seth and David sat down with the Seahawk broadcast team of Jason McDonald and Dusty Warren to discuss what the team should do with the fourth pick. more ›
The Seattle Seahawks have the fourth overall pick in Saturday's 2009 NFL draft, and we can only hope they do better than the Chicago Bears did with the first overall pick in NFL draft history: The Bears' selection, running back Jay Berwanger, eschewed pro football for a job as a foam-rubber salesman. (Don't knock it: These were the halcyon days of foam-rubber sales. Think Mad Men, but with even more dames and broads.) more ›
While local TV news teams are already struggling with embarrassing quips about the Seahawks signing of TJ Houshmandzadeh, the former Oregon State Beaver is a physical departure from a core of receivers whose collective toughness has been more reflective in recent years of a rickety china set than a professional football team. more ›

Jets' defensive end Shaun Ellis was fined ten grand for playfully heaving a giant snowball into the Qwest Field stands after Sunday's game (which the recipients, by their reaction, were totally cool with, by the way). Boling and Hughes at the TNT have their say on the matter, thinking that it was a poor reflection on our city. more ›
It was 28 years ago last night when Howard Cosell broke the news to the world during a Monday Night Football game that John Lennon was gone. Our mom cried. more ›
We learned a new word from a recent issue of Wired magazine: popcorning. It's a scientific theory involving "a chain reaction in which the accidental explosion of one nuclear warhead causes others in the vicinity to detonate, releasing lethal radiation for miles in every direction." (We are imagining some hungover crane operator over at the Bangor sub base, hitting this button when she meant to press that one.) more ›

Who is the best quarterback in the state? Matt Hasselbeck? We don't think so. Jake Locker? Sorry Husky fans. You are only half right. more ›
To paraphrase Mitch Albom, the state of Washington and football go together like Wile E. Coyote and TNT these days. At this rate, Jake Heaps will probably sign an early commitment with the Ducks next week. more ›

In head coach Mike Holmgren's Monday afternoon press conference, it was revealed that starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's knee problem is not a result of the hit by Justin Tuck in two weeks ago, but was instead a result of the bulging disc problem that has plagued him all season. Hasselbeck sought a second opinion today from an L.A.-based specialist after his knee injury wouldn't respond to treatment last week, and the new diagnosis was revealed as a result. Backup and oft-injured QB Seneca Wallace will start if he's able to practice this week. Deion Branch is also expected to return. UPDATE: NBC's John Madden to skip this week's Seahawks-Buccaneers game, marking the first regular season game he's missed in 28 years, ending a 476-week streak. more ›
Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren confirmed today that starting QB Matt Hasselbeck would likely miss Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers, due to a knee injury he picked up in last week's game. With backup QB Seneca Wallace out with yet another injury (calf), the new starting QB of your Seattle Seahawks appears destined to be Charlie Frye. more ›
Evidently, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Because his son's teams are geometrically parallel on the plane of defensive craptacularosity. more ›

Say "New York Giants" to most Seahawk fans, and the conversation will turn to the 2005 OT game at Qwest Field, where the Giants missed three field goals, including two in overtime, and the Hawks prevailed 24-21. Kicker Jay Feely had an epic fail that day, and his holder, punter Jeff Feagles, had the best seat in the house as the trainwreck unfolded. more ›
It could be worse. Somehow. We guess SoDo could have been swallowed up in a giant sinkhole. Or the Mariners could keep playing for another three months. Thankfully, their season ended Sunday, bumbling to a 61-101 record, and our long civic nightmare appears to be over, or at least delayed for a few months. more ›
Isaiah Kacyvenski, who played linebacker for the Seahawks from 2000-2006 is among a dozen pro athletes who have donated their brains to a medical study in hopes of providing new information into the long-term effects of concussions. Kacyvenski battled concussions throughout his Seahawk career. He joins a number of NFL athletes and other notable athletes, including U.S. soccer star Cindy Parlow in the study, which will be conducted postmortem (of course). more ›
The chronically East Coast-focused ESPN crowned Cleveland the most tortured fan base in all of sports last year, before the collective treachery and vindictiveness of the unholy Schultz-to-Bennett takeover cost us our oldest franchise. With the advent of this past weekend's debacle in Buffalo, it’s time for Cleveland to step aside. There’s a new redheaded stepchild on the professional sporting block and its name is Seattle. more ›
What do you get when you combine $300 million, Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld? Apparently a string of unusual commercials in which Seinfeld plays himself and Gates plays a what we can only hope is a caricature of himself. All set in a mall. (A mall? Couldn't find a Stuckey's or Tower Records to shoot in?) more ›
Seahawks Head Coach Mike Holmgren made two major announcements today on the injury front, as the team prepares for his final season at the helm. Marcus Tubbs has been waived and Bobby Engram has an injury that will put him out for 6-8 weeks. Former first-round pick Tubbs was waived today, as the team appears to have given up on the oft-injured defensive tackle. He was attempting to come back from a knee injury, which had kept him out of pre-season drills and required surgery during the 2007 training camp, causing him to miss all of last season. He was widely considered a key element in the team's ability to stop the run. more ›
Seahawks rookie defensive tackle Red Bryant injured his left knee at training camp this week, and will miss 4-5 weeks while recovering from arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage. Bryant, a fourth-round pick in this year's draft, had been performing well in camp, helping to shore up a perennial weakness in an otherwise stout Seahawk defense. Bryant is engaged to the daughter of Seahawk Ring of Honor member Jacob Green. more ›
Just in time for the first day of training camp, the Seahawks have signed first-round draft pick Lawrence Jackson to a 5-year, $11.25 million deal. The contract included a $6.1 million contribution to Jackson's tip jar, in the form of a signing bonus. Jackson, a defensive end from USC, signed the deal in time to begin practice earlier today. To avoid any confusion to the casual Seattle sports fan: This is LAWRENCE Jackson, the Seattle footballer. This is not LAUREN Jackson, the Storm star forward. They are altogether different local athletes. more ›
Been sitting on the Seahawks waiting list for 4 years, and need to settle that football jones? The Seahawks are holding their annual pre-season scrimmage at Qwest Field on Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. Tickets are now on sale. Proceeds benefit local Play It Smart programs, a non-profit youth mentoring organization. Nationally, program participants are 20% more likely to graduate high school and 16% more likely to enter college. more ›
