Can't Miss It: Wednesday

THE CHILDREN ARE OUR RALLY: Friends of Children’s Hospital, your friendly neighborhood Fearey Group-promoted advocacy group for Seattle Children's Hospital is taking it the steps of City Hall. The rally is to show support for Children's after Laurelhurst Community Club protested Children's proposed expansion and won the city hearing. Few moments in life offer the moral high ground of this rally, and it should be a great way to meet hot nurses and doctors. noon-1:30 p.m. // City Hall's west side steps, 600 4th Avenue // FREE

It seems almost too perfect that technology is what ultimately derailed our interview with the famously technologically-wary Jason Lytle. With nothing but spotty cell phone reception as he traveled through Wyoming, the former frontman of Grandaddy was unable to find a signal that would last long enough to allow for a successful interview.

Tonight's the all-ages Red Bull Big Tune Battle at Neumo's. It's a big hiphop competition (twelve producers are picked to compete, whittled down from the eighty who applied from all over the Northwest and even northern California), and the regional showdown for one of the only legit national beat battles. This year's featured guests are Detroit's Black Milk and Elzhi.

Along with all the hiphop this weekend and the hella rad Subtle laser show tonight, there's a few more music events of note. First up, tonight State Bird plays an early show (8 p.m.) at the Q Cafe in Ballard. How both the venue and this great group of Ohio tribal-folksters have been under our radar is beyond us.

Paul Weller may be MIA, but the rest of his first band play the Moore tonight under the moniker From the Jam.

If you're still in the dark this week (and you're presumably reading this at work), well, here are some shows to keep you warm in the evening. If you've got power, take it easy and kick back with your friends and family. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

Answers will be forthcoming this afternoon, along with final standings and any other information we feel like we can cram into a post. In the meantime, entertain yourself with the questions from last night's quiz at the Old Pequliar:

A little something for everyone. Consider next Monday's show the icing on the delicious music-y cake.

A: A night in Seattle, having some drinks, and listening to live music that doesn't blow ass.

It's Mother's Day weekend. Some people say we should remember our mothers all year-round, not just on a single day. But we do! With yo momma jokes! Seattlest contributors share their favorites, along with their plans for enforced family togetherness.
