WSDOT tells us that from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. this Saturday, they're closing the onramp from Yale Avenue to southbound I-5 and one lane of southbound I-5 between Yale and Union Street.

Yesterday we thought only a huge idiot would really believe Boeing was going to leave its Northwest workforce behind and move to South Carolina. But then Matt the Engineer commented: "Bad news, or perhaps part of the bluff: I just received an e-mail from Boeing letting me know that an engineering job I had applied for has been cancelled. I went back to their site to see if other jobs are available (there used to be a handful), and found absolutely no engineering jobs posted for Washington."

Not only are people saying it'll delay a first 787 flight by months, but Boeing engineers are hanging their heads low...or privately trash-talking management that ignored the problem for on-time promises: "Although the issue popped up during tests last month, Boeing initially didn't think it would affect the first flight," reports the Everett Herald's Michelle Dunlop.

Construction on the Magnolia/Interbay Whole Foods will be delayed for up to a year thanks to the shaky economy and "cash flow problems" for the fancy grocery chain, reports Magnolia Voice. In four or five weeks the site's workers will pack up and head out, leaving behind a mostly-finished exoskeleton of what will ultimately be a 12,000 sq. ft. smaller grocery store than planned. The store was slated to open in three months, just in time for Magnolites to order conveniently pre-packaged and portioned organic Thanksgiving dinners. What a shame!

One of the sadder stories we heard yesterday, from a friend who was on the Portland-Seattle train, was about the 17-year-old Kent girl who was hit and killed by a southbound Amtrak as she crossed the tracks. The Seattle Times blame-placers let you know the culprit right in the headline: "Train kills girl, 17, who was talking on phone."
