Local hero Brandon Roy and his Blazers face a must-win Game 6 in Houston tonight; the game's at 6:30 p.m. on TNT. Rockets' forward and eccentric Ron Artest, who'll be guarding Roy much of the game, paid him an incredible compliment in a slightly weird interview with TNT, calling Roy "the best player I've ever played against." The interviewer follows-up: "Better than Kobe? Better than LeBron?" Artest: "The best I've ever played against."

Tonight while Rush Limbaugh is busy writing cancer jokes, Northwest sports fans will be sitting in front of a television watching two of the regions most exciting players.

• West Seattle Blog reports that former Garfield Bulldog, Washington Husky, and current Portland Trailblazer Brandon Roy, will be dedicating a new basketball court at the Delridge Community Center next Wednesday. We remember Roy as one of the tallest kids walking the halls of GHS and it's great to see him succeeding and giving back to the local community.
• Capitol Hill Seattle reports what we noticed aghast yesterday--Dick's on Broadway is closed for construction. Thankfully, there's nothing major to panic about, as they will reopen this Thursday.
• Local blogger Sable, of The Sable Verity is on fire! She posted 25 separate posts yesterday, many of which were about the presidential election and Sarah Palin. Tucked amongst the politics posts, was an insightful personal piece on race, cultural competency, and intentions. Sable seems to be equal parts smart and sassy. Her blog's tag-line reads: "You can disagree, but I’ll still be right." And, for today, we don't have a single word of disagreement.

Unlike our beloved baseball All Star Game, we’ve tended to skip the NBA's version in recent years. However, with our hero Brandon Roy, in Sunday's game we can’t wait to watch our fellow ex-Bulldog cram some FANtastic™ action down the East’s face. However, we’ll be in Vancouver--sorry TNT.

Yet another postponement, and the new plan is to try to play a doubleheader on Monday, beginning at 10:05 am PST. The M's have a day game in Boston on Tuesday, so this would mean they'd play 3 games in about 28 hours. Not good.

Really the only thing worth remembering from last night's game was an amazing swing by Ichiro. In the 4th inning, Harden threw him a nasty splitter that fooled him. But he changed his swing mid-stroke, adjusted his bat downward, and reached the ball about a foot off the ground. And he didn't just make contact, which would've been an amazing feat in itself--he lined the ball into centerfield.

Ex-Garfield High and UW star Brandon Roy would seem to have a lock on the NBA Rookie of the Year award, but the Blazers aren't taking any chances. They've teamed with Portland-based Leatherman to create a limited-edition Brandon Roy tool which they'll send to 250 ROY voters. They are also selling a few.

Former UW (and Seattle high school) stars Brandon Roy and Nate Robinson combined for 55 points last night as the Blazers beat the Knicks 92-86. Where were you guys two years ago this week--we could've used 55 points in the Louisville game!

Brandon Roy, the reigning Western Conference Rookie of the Month, is on a roll and slowly making the NBA his own personal league. Don't think that a certain two-time NBA MVP/Victoria, B.C. native hasn't noticed.

The first time we saw Brandon Roy dribble a basketball, we knew he was going to be the first Garfield High guy to make the NBA. His debut, earlier this year with the Blazers, was anti-climactic.

Ron Silver may have been a bad guy in TimeCop, but he had a better seat at the NBA draft than the Sonics' draft pick. Yes, with their highest draft pick since 1989, the Sonics picked a guy who was sitting in the stands.

The NBA draft begins at 4pm today. UW star Brandon Roy will be a top ten pick (some say he should be #1), and teammate Bobby Jones is a likely second-rounder. With their ascension to the NBA, we must wave farewell to a special era of Husky basketball.

As the NBA's 10th worst team, the Sonics had about a 1/25 chance of getting one of the top three picks, and about a 9/10 chance of getting the 10th pick. They did not pick up an ace "on the river" however (if you have been unemployed in the past year you will know what this means), and so the tenth pick is theirs.
