Local hero Brandon Roy and his Blazers face a must-win Game 6 in Houston tonight; the game's at 6:30 p.m. on TNT. Rockets' forward and eccentric Ron Artest, who'll be guarding Roy much of the game, paid him an incredible compliment in a slightly weird interview with TNT, calling Roy "the best player I've ever played against." The interviewer follows-up: "Better than Kobe? Better than LeBron?" Artest: "The best I've ever played against."

Tonight while Rush Limbaugh is busy writing cancer jokes, Northwest sports fans will be sitting in front of a television watching two of the regions most exciting players.
Way back in November we wrote that we were going to start following the Blazers. We got off to a fast start; however, as the NBA season ground on and the Huskies took off, we kind of fell off the map on that one. The December snow canceled our trip to the Rose Garden--well, that and the lack of any planning whatsoever.
Clinton is up by a smidge in Texas, it's neck and neck in Ohio, and Rush Limbaugh fans are going big for Hillary.
Unlike our beloved baseball All Star Game, we’ve tended to skip the NBA's version in recent years. However, with our hero Brandon Roy, in Sunday's game we can’t wait to watch our fellow ex-Bulldog cram some FANtastic™ action down the East’s face. However, we’ll be in Vancouver--sorry TNT.
In Garfield High alum Brandon Roy's national coming out party, he didn't have a great statistical game, shooting 6-23. But anyone who watched the Blazers 89-79 win instead of just looking at the boxscore saw that he was clutch when it mattered.
After paying for a financial feasibility study, the Muckleshoot tribe announced today that they'd be willing to donate land for an NBA arena down there in Auburn.
Portland's Greg Oden, the #1 pick in this year's NBA draft, is out for the season before playing his first NBA game after exploratory surgery found extensive damage in his right knee.
#1 Pick in the 2007 NBA Draft: Blazers!
Wonder why we need to spend $100 million to renovate Garfield High? Because Garfield gives the world things like this:
Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy was chosen as the NBA's Rookie of the Year on Wednesday after leading all rookies with averages of 16.8 points, 4.0 assists and 35.4 minutes in 57 games.Continue reading "Brandon is ROY"
Permit us to bloviate some on the death of David Halberstam today in a car crash, which is utter bullshit considering that the guy reported from fricking Vietnam and he dies in a traffic accident in San Mateo (the car that hit him driven by, in a terrible irony, a Berkeley journalism student) (actually, I'm an idiot, his driver was a Berkeley student, so there's no irony, just terribleness).
Yet another postponement, and the new plan is to try to play a doubleheader on Monday, beginning at 10:05 am PST. The M's have a day game in Boston on Tuesday, so this would mean they'd play 3 games in about 28 hours. Not good.
Really the only thing worth remembering from last night's game was an amazing swing by Ichiro. In the 4th inning, Harden threw him a nasty splitter that fooled him. But he changed his swing mid-stroke, adjusted his bat downward, and reached the ball about a foot off the ground. And he didn't just make contact, which would've been an amazing feat in itself--he lined the ball into centerfield.
Ex-Garfield High and UW star Brandon Roy would seem to have a lock on the NBA Rookie of the Year award, but the Blazers aren't taking any chances. They've teamed with Portland-based Leatherman to create a limited-edition Brandon Roy tool which they'll send to 250 ROY voters. They are also selling a few.
--The real estate bubble really is getting crazy.
Former UW (and Seattle high school) stars Brandon Roy and Nate Robinson combined for 55 points last night as the Blazers beat the Knicks 92-86. Where were you guys two years ago this week--we could've used 55 points in the Louisville game!
--Though he's been rumored to be a candidate for both the Liberty and Long Beach State head coaching jobs, Cameron Dollar says it isn't true. Which means he's probably on a private plane to Long Beach right now.
We had a feeling that, after his 4-16 performance in Portland Tuesday, Gilbert Arenas would do something special at Key Arena last night. We were right. Why, oh why, do we ever make plans?
Starbucks CEO and former Sonics owner Howard Schultz is memorandizing about "the watering down of the Starbucks experience." We'd like to hear what he has to say about the bigoting up of the Seattle experience.
Brandon Roy, the reigning Western Conference Rookie of the Month, is on a roll and slowly making the NBA his own personal league. Don't think that a certain two-time NBA MVP/Victoria, B.C. native hasn't noticed.
The first time we saw Brandon Roy dribble a basketball, we knew he was going to be the first Garfield High guy to make the NBA. His debut, earlier this year with the Blazers, was anti-climactic.
--Brandon Roy's expected to return from a heel injury tonight when the Blazers play Houston. If Roy wants to be ROY, he's got some catching up to do.
Brandon Roy, who is as far as we can tell the first Garfield High School Bulldog to play in the NBA, started in last night's hometeam win over the Oklahoma City Sonics.
Before you move it's a good idea to throw out the crap you don't need any more. And our Oklahoma City-bound basketball franchise is doing just that, firing longtime Sonics executive Wally Walker.
Now that the Sonics are dead to us, it's time to start meeting the only locally-owned team in the Pacific Northwest, your Portland Trail Blazers. First up--the Blazers' best player, power forward Zach Randolph. Randolph, an Indiana native who came to the NBA right after high school, averaged 18ppg and 8rpg last season. But what do we really care about? His crib (via Blazers Blog)...
Who opens against the Sonics at the Key? Why it's the only locally-owned NBA franchise! Also the only one that:
On consecutive nights, Seattle basketball teams got stymied by events at the free throw line. On Sunday night, the Husky men lost a heartbreaker to Stanford after Stanford's Chris Hernandez hit three free throws to tie the game and send it into overtime.
The Sonics lost their first preseason game last night, 82-75 to Nate McMillan's Portland Trail Blazers. McMillan, you will recall, played 12 years for the Sonics and coached the team for 5. But, after his contract expired last season, he made the admirable decision to test new waters as the coach of the notoriously uncoachable Blazers.
