Released via the Seattle Police Department Twitter feed, officers shot a man yesterday at Greenwood Ave. N and Holman Road, who is suspected in yesterday's Shoreline bank robbery and a string of other bank robberies. Prior to shots being fired, officers had spotted the bank robbery suspect stopped in traffic at Holman and 3rd Ave. with a stolen pick-up truck. A team of police cars quickly began to box in the truck. Trying to flee, the suspect rammed the stolen pick-up into a police car and a car carrying a father with his kids at the corner of Greenwood Ave. N and Holman Road. Police fired four shots, stalling the suspect who sustained injuries to his arm. The family of three was uninjured.

It's probably wrong of us to focus on this particular part of two recent bank robberies (hey, someone's in custody, end of story), but it just confirms something we've been thinking for years now: there really isn't that much difference between a Kroger QFC and Safeway. Now we have proof that the FBI--the FBI!--can't detect the difference either, as their Most Wanted poster for the bank robber details the robbery occurring at the QFC Wells Fargo on 15th Avenue East, and that's...a Safeway. Thankfully, CHS was happy to straighten the FBI out, but my god, we can't ask them to do that for every single customer who gets confused about which customer club card to pull out.

At least one of the FBI's cleverly named local most-wanteds has been found, tried, and sentenced to ten years in prison for his role in ten bank robberies around the region. According to the Seattle Times, the 63-year-old Waddling Bandit (aka Dante P. Dapolonia, which is an equally great name) also has to repay $88,000 to the banks he robbed. Perhaps he can spend his time in jail considering how to use his knowledge of costumes and character make-up towards something constructive, like community theater.

Monroe Police are doubtful that a man who robbed an armored vehicle yesterday actually escaped via inner tube down the Skykomish. However, police believe the robber did post a Craigslist ad to help make an easier getaway. The ad asked for construction workers in need of work to show up in a specific outfit at a location across the street from the bank. Nearly a dozen men showed up in blue shirts and respirator masks, which is like what Monroe police say the robber was wearing. So no inner tube escape, but the latest details still make the suspect sound pretty ingenious.

According to the P-I, traffic is currently blocked off on Third between Cherry and Spring as police search for the man who robbed a bank near the Columbia Tower an hour ago. They're looking for a white man in his 30s (read: half of downtown's daytime population), but Seattlest wishes them luck! We'll keep you posted, and let us know if you hear anything more or what you're seeing if you work near the area.

Downtown Seattle turned into an Old West style stand-off this morning as SPD officers pursued bank robbery suspects driving a gold SUV. Shortly before 11 a.m., SPD officers surrounded the suspect's car on Spring Street between First and Second Avenues. While all the details remain sketchy, at shortly after 10 a.m., a man described as armed and wearing a mask held-up a West Seattle Wells Fargo on the 2300 block of California Street. SPD officers entered a pursuit as the suspect fled in a car driven by an accomplice. The chase first led through Capitol Hill and then downtown, where one of the suspects fled on foot near the intersection of First and Yesler before being apprehended. The driver continued on, leading to the eventual stand-off in downtown. Unwilling to relinquish the weapon or exit his car despite demands from officers, the SPD fired on the suspect, hitting him in the neck.

The continuous availability of stupid criminal stories never ceases to amaze us. The latest vignette to this never-ending novel comes from the newly launched Seattle 911 Blog.

San Francisco is proud host of a new reality show called "How to Get the Guy" that's unfortunately not a descendant of Will and Grace, Queer Eye, The L Word, American Idol etc. Also a biodefence lab is coming to the East Bay and SFist teaches wine pairing.
