Blindsided on the 48

A man boards the 48 heading southbound near Montlake and pleads with the driver to let him have a free ride. The driver chastises him briefly--everyone else on the bus has paid, you know--then relents and lets him on the bus. Mr. Freeloader sits across from Seattlest, meanwhile next to us is a blind woman who we see fairly often.

Mr. Freeloader: Hey driver, what buses go down Madison?
Driver: Uh, the 8, maybe the 12...
Blind woman: Where do you want to go?
MF: Swedish.
BW: Get off at the stop just past Madison, walk back across the street and down to 19th to catch the 12. Take it to just east of Broadway, get off there and walk across the street.
MF: Damn, I just got directions from a blind person.
Seattlest: (Did he actually just say that out loud?)
BW: Best ones you'll probably ever get.
(The bus passes the Madison stop, no-one says anything. It continues on and waits at a red light.)
BW: That was your stop.
MF: Huhn, what? Aw damn. I wasn't paying attention.
BW: Sorry, can't help you with that.

Rad.

Priceless.

So did Michael Van Baker ever make it to Swedish?

Just today, I saw some kid punch some other kid in the face on the 48 near Green Lake. Blindsided on the 48 indeed.

Once they allow bars on buses, I'm treating Blind Woman to a drink.

As bad as Seattle's public transportation seems to be, this shows it can be really good for some things. Mooning peds on the 48 is also fun if you're 16. I wouldn't try it if you're much older.
