We Survived the Uprising

fashionshow1.jpg

Urban Craft Uprising has their timing down. Most of the people we talked to at the show were there to do their Christmas shopping. While some diehard craftaholics were doing all of their shopping there, we settled for checking off half the people on our list.

Because we know some of those recipients read this blog -- you know who you are -- we won't get into too much detail. But we did manage to coax our 14-month-old through the entire exhibition hall -- a step up, we must say, from the SoDo gallery where last year's UCU was held.

Said 14-month-old, who's too young to read, will be receiving from Santa a kickass shirt made by eight3one.

We made sure to stop by Shorthand Press, who remembered Little Miss Seattlest from Bumbershoot. Specifically, they remembered her "Dingo Snack" t-shirt. Several of our friends and/or family will be receiving products from Shorthand -- we're smitten with their simple designs incorporating traditional stenography as a graphic element. (Request: a request-your-own feature. "Peanut" is cute, but we'd like to see shorthand for "rugrat.")

Before we had to wisk her off to the wide-open area at the back of the hall so she could push her stroller in circles for a while, LMS was enthusiastic about the sparkly, toddler-level samples from Tastie Pasties. Thankfully, she didn't manage to crunch anything, but other parents take note: you may be able to add a glamsical element to breastfeeding in the future if you buy a pair.

Our Secret Cindy Lou Who (you know, the person who gets your Secret Santa gifts) -- you don't know who you are -- is getting something from GIRL Seattle.

Other people may or may not be getting stuff from Glamscience, mishmash, and SNAP Design. Or any of the other vendors whose stuff we managed to look at for 30 seconds before having to follow LMS to a new bright and shiny object.

We missed Saturday's fashion show [Seattlest Dan didn't: see photo above], though in retrospect we were just as happy to miss the lines out the door. We heard from a couple of vendors, though, that the show definitely sparked their sales peak for the weekend.

After two hours, we retired from the exhibition hall, our canvas bag full of alternagifts and our pockets full of business cards for vendors we liked but weren't buying anything from that day.
