Second only to December 21st, when we can finally stop crying in our coffee every morning because the days will actually start getting longer, this is our favorite time of year. Yes, paradoxically it does mean that days are now getting shorter, and soon to become downright gloomy at times, but Seattlest is complex and human like that. Regardless, the combination of perfect crisp air, autumnal colors, and you'll-soon-be-wearing-boots-and-sweaters temps makes us a bit giddy. Here's a few ways to ease into fall this weekend:
Freemont Oktoberfest
"The Center of the Universe"
Beer, more beer, music, and a Texas Chainsaw Pumpkin Carving Contest. Apparently, some people are actually going to run. Beer and running, hmmmm...
Broken Spoke Bicycle Festival
Bellingham
More beer! More music! There are no chainsaws in the mix here that we know of, but one of the bike races is called the Deadfall Downhill, which just might be more gory.
Run Wild
Eatonville
No beer, no music, just running. Despite these facts, Seattlest is still recommending this event for those that are pure of heart. And like to run. There's also talk by the organizers of opportunities to see bison, moose, and elk, oh my!
We will sadly have to miss out on any of these fall fun-fests, but only because we're helping with something that runs the entire late-season outdoor gamut: the second annual Girl Scouts Totem Council Adventure Race. Biking, hiking, and paddling all in one day. Oh my, indeed.
