The perennial "east coast vs. west coast" divisions that have plagued the rap genre for eons may finally reach a dramatic climax tonight as rival rap bands Big Digits (of Boston) and Cancer Rising (representin' Seattle) converge at the Lo Fi Gallery at 429B Eastlake, a mere gold chain's toss north of beloved hip-hop hang-out REI.
Whereas Big Digits founder TD Sidell claims tonight's show "will be a fun dance party...", Seattlest suspects this touchy-feely P.R. move is nothing more than a cover-up of the years and years of bitter enmity shared with his west coast rival. Cancer Rising founder and Stranger rap expert Larry Mizell Jr. expressed a more candid attitude in his asnwer to our inquiry about the groups relations: "One of the big digits used to drive me to lunch everyday..." Note the ominous past tense of his verb usage.
Seattlest will attend this rap show personally to watch the sparks fly and see just how long the forced "positive spin" can conceal this... Rap Battle in Seattle!? (Get it? Battle rhymes with Seattle.) Doors open at 9:30.

REI a hip hop hangout? You're being facetious aren't you? It strikes me more as a phish listening northend yuppie hangout.
Whatever the outcome may have been, Bostonist will take on and defeat Seattlest in the -ist rap battle, whenever it happens. Ask Seth and Dave - I can freestyle!
